I Believe in the son
As Christians, we not only celebrate Jesus’ death and resurrection, but also that he ascended to heaven and now sits at the right hand of God. For the next few weeks, our sermons are focusing on the Ascension of Jesus. We say it every week in the Apostles’ Creed. Why is the Ascension important? Why did Jesus leave us for heaven? What is Christ doing?
Artist statement: “For centuries, the words of the Apostles’ Creed have been spoken by believers across cultures, languages, and generations. Each week as we recite this simple profession together, I imagine these ancient words wafting upward, like incense toward the heavens, joining the countless believers who have spoken these words before us and those who will continue to proclaim them around the world. Weaving was a natural way to reflect this shared confession. As yarns move back and forth across the loom, the many strands are joined into a single cloth, much like many voices gathered into one declaration of faith. Within the weaving, a small space remains intentionally unfinished, a quiet reminder that God’s story is still unfolding and that there is more still to come. At the center, a bold white U marks the pivotal moment of our profession: Christ’s sacrificial death, His victory over the grave, and His glorious resurrection. Part of the U is woven with wool roving, which is pure, unspun lamb’s wool. It is a reminder of Christ as the Lamb, who was sacrificed for all of us.”
