Citizens Communities

Citizens Communities are groups of 6 to 15 individuals who commit to living as family, servants, and missionaries. Each Citizens Community meets on a recurring weekday evening. These meetings alternate between larger family meals with discussion and smaller “Huddles,” where men and women meet separately for deeper connection, study, and prayer. Regardless, there is only one meeting per week.

Citizens Communities follow a typical school year—August through May, with a break in December. In a city where many are looking for meaningful connection, Citizens Communities offer a space to experience embodied presence and relationship.

On Sunday, May 5, we’ll be meeting in Golden Gate Park. We’ll have a service that feels very similar to our Sunday Gatherings at New Traditions School, but we’ll just be outdoors! New Traditions School is having an event on May 5, so we will be meeting at Chain of Lakes Meadow (previously Old Speedway Meadow) in GGP.

CANCELLED FOR RAIN: Good Friday Service (with Stations of the Cross)

IMPORTANT: Our Good Friday Service with Christ Church is sadly cancelled, due to weather . Even if the rain stops, the path up there will be a muddy mess.I encourage you to join with another church to celebrate Good Friday. Here are three good options:

I’ve also heard wonderful things about Reality’s Stations of the Cross Walkthrough and it’s open all day tomorrow, from 7am-10pm. If you can’t make the later service, make time to drop by.

On Good Friday, March 29th, we’ll be gathering with Christ Church again at Prayerbook Cross in Golden Gate Park, as we did last year. Around 4:30 pm, we’ll have a trail moving through the stations of the cross, and a 6 pm service with refreshments afterwards.

Childcare is provided for kids under 6. Good Friday is an important day in the life of the church, as we contemplate Jesus' death on the cross. We'd love for you to join us as we remember & reflect together.

Sunday Gathering

We gather for worship on the first, second, and third Sundays of every month. You can learn more about where to park, what to expect, and all the rest here.

_____

At the beginning of every year, we facilitate something called the Story of God in our Sunday gatherings. We listen to God tell us His whole story, from the beginning of the Bible to the end. In 2024, Story of God will last 6 Sundays, from January 14th to February 18th. Story of God is a dialogical environment where we can all respond and react to the story, and learn and wrestle together. It's a great space for people who don't believe that the story is true, and for those who do! We'd love for you to join us, and to invite a friend who's never heard the story before, or is curious about experiencing it in a fresh way. You can find more details about Story of God here.

Ash Wednesday begins Lent, a season of preparation for the most important days of the year for Christians — Good Friday and Easter. We are reminded of the effects of sin (“From dust you've come, and to dust you shall return”) and how, only because of Christ’s death, can those effects be reversed.

Citizens will be holding an Ash Wednesday Service at Sunset Church (at the CE Building across the street), marked by Scripture, prayer, silence, and song.
