Flourishing Relationships Series
On Sunday, we began our Spring sermon series. For the next four months, we will be asking the Lord to show us what flourishing relationships look like. Below is our series description.
In the beginning, God created the world. He declared everything good. Everything, that is, except human aloneness. "It is not good that man would be alone."
God has always intended for people to live in fruitful relationship not only with him, but with others. Without other people, we cannot become who we are called to be or do what He has called us to do. These relationships are meant to be a reflection of God Himself, who exists in perfect, eternal relationship as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. "God is love, and whoever abides in love, abides in God." (1 John 4:16)
Love delights in the good of others. Tragically, sin runs in the opposite direction of love. Operating from fear and pride, sin chooses self over others. Sin breaks relationship, doing violence to our world. But Jesus came to save the world from sin.
The gospel restores to us the possibility of loving relationship.
In Christ, we are perfectly loved, eliminating our fear and pride. He binds our wounds and remakes our hearts. In relationship, there is no longer a need to use others because we have everything we need in Christ. Like God, we can relate to others by giving and receiving, never taking or hoarding or flinching. Not because the world is suddenly safe, but because He always is.
Over the next four months, we will be asking God to open our eyes to the beauty of flourishing relationships and lead us forward in repentance and faith. We hope you'll join us.
