Preparing for Christmas: Week 1 - O Wisdom

O Wisdom - 2.jpg

Yesterday, we began our Advent Series in Isaiah. During Advent, Christians are called to prepare their hearts to celebrate Christmas. What are some practical steps we can apply the sermon and prepare our hearts for Christmas?

  1. Meditate on Scripture. In light of Sunday's sermon on "Christ as Wisdom," consider reading First Corinthians 1:18-24; Philippians 2:5-11; Colossians 1:15-20; and Matthew 5:1-12.

How is God's wisdom different than the world's wisdom? What are you most looking forward to when Christ comes again to rule in perfect wisdom? Where do you need him to come in wisdom today?
  2. Ask Christ to Come Again. This is what Advent is all about. Spend time in prayer asking God to come again. This week, ask Jesus to come in wisdom -- into your heart and life today, and with finality in glory. Ask him to dispel confusion and injustice in your life, work, family, city, and world.
  3. Start a Christmas List. In your prayers, begin a list of what you want from Jesus. Approach your Heavenly Father like a kid -- don't hold back. Ask in faith. What do you want Christ to do today? Why do you want him to come again?
  4. Listen to Christmas Music. Especially those that express longing. "O Come, O Come Emmanuel" is a particularly good song for Advent.
